This crew list is compiled from several sources: Only the Commissioned Officers are officially recorded - in the Navy List which publishes the names, ranks, and dates of appointment, of all officers serving on a particular ship. These lists are invariably behind since the information was recorded in advance of publication and promulgation. Also the last War-Time Navy List was published in July 1945 so only covers appointments up to June 1945.. The next edition did not appear as vast numbers of personnel were ‘fluid’ after the surrender of Japan and vast numbers of R.N.V.R. officers were demobed soon after.
Details of Non-commissioned officers and junior ratings are drawn from Admiralty Fleet Orders, ship’s publications and casualty lists
.

The list is far from complete, the BEAULY FIRTH would have had a crew of approx 600

My father Courtney John Winchester served on this ship and was with it until they were demobbed in the UK after bringing it back with food supplied from Queensland. I need to look up details but will post later when I have the correct information relating to his position and duties.I do remember him saying that they had to repair aircraft and equipment before ditching it overboard to make way for the food supplies. Dad passed away in 2006 and a picture of the Beauly Firth had pride of place on ... Read More

My recently deceased father, Peter Lye, served on the Beauly Firth for the trip described.

I recall all the places and still have some of his naval documents and keepsakes front he time including a coming of age “21 key” made in the ship workshop and annotated with all the places visited.

There is also his ‘crossing the line’ certificate.

A shame I didn’t discover this page a year ago to be ablee to show him.
