This probably the ceremony for Sub Lt
(A) RT Bisman RNZNVR and Sub Lt (A) JD Chittenden RNZNVR,
who were both killed in a deck crash on Thursday, 29th June
1944; three other enlisted men were also killed in the
incident, they were lost overboard when Sub Lt. Chittenden’s
Seafire broke through the barrier and went over the side
taking a parked aircraft with it, killing Sub Lt Bisman and
three maintenance personnel working in the aircraft park
forward of the barrier were lost at sea, their bodies were
never recovered.
