OPERATION FRANKTON AND THE BOOM PATROL DETACHMENT
« on: 21 October 2012 05:10:44 pm »

I'm doing my thesis on OPERATION FRANKTON of the BOOM PATROL DETACHMENT, a canoe raid to the port of Bordeaux in 1942.
I'll be grateful for any recommendation concerning relevant material: aerial photos of the time, any records about the training before the operation, personnel, the boom patrol detachment before and after the operation, relevant books and articles.

Any assistance and tips will be appreciated

You need the National Archives, at Kew.  They have the following documents:

ADM.202/399 -   'Frankton': Attack on enemy shipping, Gironde river, Bordeaux

ADM.202/310 -   Boom Patrol Detachment (for Operation 'Frankton')

DEFE.2/218 -   "Frankton" (attack on Axis shipping running blockade at Bordeaux). Includes possible War Crimes, awards, honours and Operation Blanket (canoe exercise from Margate to Deptford). Document contains copies only

ADM 1/14353 : Operation "Frankton": posthumous awards to Corporal A F Laver RM and Marine W H Mills RM

DEFE 2/216 :  "Frankton" (attack on Axis ships running blockade at Bordeaux): photographs and plans of area, preparatory and final notes on operation Date: 1942 Mar 3-1942 Dec 12

Hello,

Philo Nauticus, have you any idea of the cost of all those documents (approx.)?

Thank you!

I believe it would cost £1.50 to £3.50 per page.

You may submit a request for an estimate of the cost.
