richard.k:
Hello. The above Officer flew an op with 407 RCAF Squadron in Oct 1942 as an observer. I think he was a RN flak officer. Can any one supply more info on this person?

Thanks Richard

Hi Richard,

The officer in question was (acting) Lieutenant Frederick Bell-Scott Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve.  He was attached to the Naval Intelligence Division (NID) from the summer of 1942.

In October 1942 the squadron was operating from RAF St. Eval, Cornwall so presumably he was on a mission to gather intelligence. Perhaps squadron records could shed some light on the missions flown during that month,

See Operations Record Books, Squadrons held at the UK National Archives -see http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/browse/r/h/C53068 this suggests that the log books still exist.

This all I can find on him, and this comes from t he Navy Lists for 1942.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Tony

Tony. Thanks for the info. The op he flew was called a Fishery Patrol. They were off at 12:45 and down at 17:25. I take it that German Navy may of been using fishing trawlers to keep tabs on RAF patrols. Would you happen to have his service number ?
Thanks Richard
