HMT Royal Edward sinking 1915
« on: 08 October 2017 09:44:49 am »

Hello,

I have a Great Uncle who survived the sinking of the HMT Royal Edward in 1915. He was infantry (Hampshire Regt) and sadly he was KIA a year later at the Somme.

I'm looking for more details beyond Wikipedia etc on the events leading up to, during and after the sinking. I'd like to find out which ship my relative was picked up by, how long he may have been in the water and where he was taken afterwards.

Thanks in advance,

Stuart

It may be difficult to find all that info.  The National Archives has some "correspondence and papers"

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C6642317

but I don't know how comprehensive it is.  I found this website, which has a lot of detail:
