Title: Medal & Award abbreviations
Post by: haryc on 21 February 2018 04:04:18 pm
Hello

I need a bit of help with my father's service record.
Under Medals it states:
31 Oct 46       WG and PWC (cr)edited. I think the word is credited but not sure.
What does 'WG' and 'PWC' stand for please?

In 49 he was awarded the      Burma Star & War Medal.

Very many thanks to anyone who has any idea.

Kind regards
Carol

WG - War Gratuity

PWC = Post War Credits

War Gratuity was a lump sum of cash paid by the Government to all service personnel on leaving the forces - basically a 'thank-you' payment

Post War Credits = were payments to compensate people for the higher taxes paid during WW2; the 'extra tax' was repaid over several years
