Title: Ships Associated with Hertfordshire
Post by: tigercat on 02 February 2020 01:24:29 pm
I'm doing some research  with idea of possibly  writing a book into all the Ships associated  with Hertfordshire.

These fall into 2 categories  :

1) ships adopted at warship week
2 ships named after places in Herts

So far in category 2 I have HMS Aldenham , HMS St Albans , HMT Hertfordshire.

Any information  will be gratefully  received

In Category 1 = HMS Tweed ( adopted by Hatfield)
HMS Puckeridge ( = Watford)
Woodpecker ( = Bushey)
and I suspect that there are more

In Category 2 = HMS Gaddesdon (1917) and HMS Puttenham (1956)

I would check out the names of the Ton, Ham and Ley classes of the 1950s - they were all named after villages; likewise the Hunt class of WW1 (1917 - 19) - although supposedly named after Hunts, the names actually covered small towns
