Title: tracing an Ancestor
Post by: SarahJay_11 on 04 September 2014 10:35:46 pm
I'm hoping someone can help me.. I have an ancestor who died in WW2. But with few remaining family members left, we have little information.

I have found his rank, and that he was attached to H.m. L.c.t. 495. But I'm trying to establish how he died as that is a bit of a mystery.

can anyone tell me how I find out which ship, he was connected to?

1 - request a copy of his service record: the details of how to do this can be found elsewhere on this site.  This will give you the outline of his service

2 - LCT.495 = Landing Craft, Tank, 495

3 - What was his name, and what year did he die?

Thanks for the info.

His rank and name was Stoker 1st Class Lawrence Augustus Steel.

And He died on 20th Sept. 1945. In Rangoon. But that's all I've managed to find out. He's listed as "missing presumed killed", but can't find any other information.
