January 2012:

  • Added  a new book review to the review page, From School to Landing Craft

  • Added a new reminiscence to The MONAB Story, Childhood memories or Schofields: A short piece submitted by Don Pollock who, as a school boy, lived beside the airfield at Schofields (Quakers Hill) New South Wales.

  • Added two new pictures to the 'Mystery photos' page

  • Added new article - Eleven months aboard HMS INDOMITABLE combining the diary of Able Seaman Gerald A. Hancock and the photographs of Petty Officer Walter E Gelling this records the eleven months at sea of HMS INDOMITABLE, from  Liverpool in September 1941 to Gibraltar in August 1942.

  • New page added  in the People section;  Ldg Officer's Steward Lois Lade WRNS - A short piece about Lois; time as an 'immobile' Wren working at HMS Vernon (R) in Brighton during WW2

 


May2011:

  • New page added  in the Reminiscence section; Royal Naval Hospital Chatham X-Ray Department Staff 1943 in which  Dr Ken Hines recalls how his parents met while working in the X-Ray department, and how his mother went on to do work for some of the most senior members of the naval medical staff.

  • New page added  in the Reminiscence section; Leading Coder (S) Dennis Mills in which Dennis recalls his life in the royal navy as a national service entrant 1952-54, He trained as a Coder (Special) and served at H.M.S. Royal Albert in Germany before his demob and then ten years in the reserves.

  • New gallery added to the Royal Navy Escort Carrier site: H.M.S. RAVAGER gallery 

 


April 2011:

  • The revised MONAB Story  web site went live on April 8th. The site has a slightly different look b using the same templates with a few 'tweaks'. The main reason behind the revision was the comparability with higher resolution monitors, the templates are now dynamic and will stretch to fit the screen without distorting the content. The build resolution is 1024x768 and it has been tested at 1280x800.

  • Added a new Mystery Photo Quiz page - a mix of genuinely unidentified photos and others thrown in as a challenge for fun.

  • Added a short account of the naval career of  Paymaster Lieutenant Commander Edward N. Hopkns RN (1878 to 1947) 

    in the People section.

 


 

March 2011:

  • New page added  in the Reminiscence section; Sub Lt. (A) Peter Hyde RNVR
    In ‘'Trapped Above the Clouds by Coincidence'’ Peter recalls how a chain of coincidences led led him to the war in the Pacific and eventually, to an encounter in a bar in London after the war.

  • Small gallery of photos from the WW1 cruiser HMS CONSTANCE added

 

 


 

February 2011:

  • New page added  in the People section; WRNS Torpedoman Barbara Sugden 
    When she enlisted in the WRNS Barbara had no expectation of what role she would play in the war effort; imagine her surprise when she was allocated to a branch newly opened to women. She was to train as a Torpedoman and soon found herself working on depth charges and gyro compasses, sometimes even at sea.

  • Forum panel added to the home page which displays the last seven messages posted .

 

 


 

January 2011:

  • Page template modified to include a dynamic navigation bar,  the text scaling code has been removed from all RNRA portal pages.

  • Royal Navy Escort Carriers site updated

 

 


May 2010:

  • Added a page about the war time service of Telegraphist (S) Clifford Dennison

  • Added a collection of photographs taken when by former Leading Air Mechanic (Engines) Douglas 'Shorty' Heath visited the former Royal Navy Air Station at Sembawang, Singapore, H.M.S. SIMBANG 65 years on from when he served there at the end of "WW2

 


August 2009:

  • Added a link to a short colour video clip of WW2 film shot aboard HMS Nabob during her work up. See the Royal Navy Escort Carriers section.

 

 


May 2009:

  • Added a photograph of the White Ensign in the Chapel at Roedean School to the HMS Vernon pages.

 


June 2008:

  • Updated the pages designed to help visitors find answers to  enquires and the pages giving information about how to contribute your own material to the web site and and how to donate photos or documents to the archive.

 


April 2008:

  • Updated the HMS King Alfred and HMS Vernon pages - new images added.

  • Added a new 'miscellaneous photos' section and uploaded small photo gallery of D-Day images supplied by Mr. Malcolm Bennett. Malcolm's late father Roland served aboard HMS Warspite.

  • Added a revised guest book, this is now embedded within the site template and no longer opens in a Bravenet external page..

 


January 2008:

  • Added a donations button to the main home pages - this asks for £1 towards the running costs of the site

  • Added the first content for World War ! - the memoirs of Able Seaman James Robert John Hart, a member of the London Division of the Royal Navy Reserve who served in the Royal Naval Division fighting as an infantryman in Gallipoli and France.

 


November 2007:

  • Created a new section 'People' to hold links to pages and galleries dedicated to individuals who served in the RN, RM and reserve forces.

  • Added “The Forgotten Cruise” by Tony O`Toole an article recalling HMS Triumph and the 13th Carrier Air Group, the first Royal Navy Carrier Force in the Korean War.

 


 May 2007:

  • Added the reminiscences of Angus Kidd, entitled "I Spy" - Angus recalls his time as a national serviceman in the Royal Navy, his selection and training for specialisation in interception of  Russian communications during the Cold War era.

 


 February 2007:

  • Added the reminiscences of Writer 'Mac' McCarthy - DM/X 720699 who worked in the Captain's office of HMS Nabcatcher, MONAB 8 at Kai Tak, Hong Kong.

 


 January 2007:

  • Added an online forum for visitors to make more advanced posts onto message boards dedicated to particular aspects of the Royal Navy. Users must create a username and password to access the forum but once enrolled they can easily add photographs and web links to their posts.

  • Added a short reminiscence piece  about the experiences of a wartime evacuee and his brother, sent to the US on the Cunard liner Scythia in 1940 and returned home on HMS Thane in 1944.

  • Fixed navigation bar bugs and page banner display issues in the Firefox browser

  • Added new article - In Memoriam - Wren Anne McCormack A brief account of an accident in 1943 which claimed the lives of 8 WRNS ratings and how one is still remembered today.

  • Added notice on the home page for Windows Service Pack 2 users about how it treats the new accessibility features.

 


 December 2005:

  • HMS Lizard page updated with new content.

  • Colour scheme modified for better readability: removed mid-Blue headings, lines  and bullets, these were changed to white.


 November 2005:

Guest book modified to include anti-spamming technologies - while these may make the process of posting a comment on the Guest book a little more complicated the prevention of offensive or annoying junk posts making their way into the pages is in everyone's interest.

 


 June 2005:

Added the reminiscences of two WRNS Torpedomen, both of whom  trained at  HMS Vernon (R) and served at HMS Caroline.


 May 2005:

Added an article about the Avro Lancaster Bomber in service with the Fleet Air Arm.

 


 March 2005:

Added the histories of HMS VERNON (R) and HMS LIZARD

 


 February 2005:
