Identification
« on: 06 November 2024 04:05:43 pm »

I am trying to identify the ship(s) and their location in the attached photo.  I was told it was China Shanghai in the 1940s.  Can anyone help, thanks in advance.

The picture is not of very good quality or clarity, but looks like a U.S. Navy cruiser at Shanghai - if so, then it should be either  the USS Houston [CA.30] or the USS Augusta [CA.31] which served in the US Asiatic Fleet in the 1930s – see photo link below
The ship astern is a British ‘County’ class cruiser – without a date it is difficult to positively identify, but if it is around 1937, then it will be HMS Cumberland which served in the Far East at this time

This  photo shows the USS Augusta at Shanghai in 1937
