Royal Navy Diving Programme off Irish Coast 1974
« on: 14 February 2020 03:38:18 pm »

For then past five years I have been researching the crash of an Aer Lingus Viscount off the County Wexford coast, south-east Ireland on Sunday 24th March 1968. This research is private.

Can anyone help me please with the following:-

On 3rd August 1974 The Times newspaper reported that the Royal Navy was diving on RAF aircraft wreckage a short distance from where the Viscount crashed.
Can anyone give me information on this diving programme? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

HMS Penelope was involved for the first few days in the search for the Viscount in March 1968. I would really like to have some contact from anyone who was on board at that time. Likewise I am trying to trace any crew member who was on board ASRV Invermoriston, CSV Uplifter or HMS Hardy during the search.

Many thanks for your help,

Frank Donaldson,
Inniscarra, Cork City, Ireland.

For contacting former crew members of Penelope, it might be worth contacting the Penelope Assocation –

Likewise, for the Uplifter:

The National Archives at Kew, London has two files relating to the incident, which seem to cover until 1974:
