Acting Chief Petty Officer at age 25

I am researching a family member who served in the Royal Navy from 1946 to 1958.  I have his service history and it shows him acting as a Chief Petty Officer when he was 25 years old.  I was told that he was one of the youngest CPO’s at that time.  How could I verify this?
