Title: Ships Duties
Post by: Kevlaar on 25 May 2021 11:48:14 am
Hi All,

I have been researching my late father's RN record from 1943 to 1952. I have managed to obtain his service record showing postings to shore bases, ships, etc. However, if at all possible I would like to find out what his role was when posted to a particular ship. Does anyone know if these records are available or am I being too optimistic? Any pointers would really be appreciated as I have come to a dead end.

That would depend on what his branch was - what his rating was

His service records should show this

HI,

He was an Able Seaman and served on HMS Meynell Aug 1943 to Feb 1944, HMS Allington Castle June 1944 to June 1945 (three Arctic Convoys), he then seemed to be posted to various ships for a short time. The records I have been able to obtain so far (Service History from Naval Command) tell me where he was, but not what he was doing.
