What would have been rate of pay, leave entitlement in 1939?
-
What rate (ie rank) ?
-
Able seaman for duration 1939 - 1945
Thank you

The basic rate of pay for an Able Seaman at this time was 3 shillings a day, increasing to 3s 4d after 3 years and 3s 8d after six years - they were usually paid weekly, so that would mean basic weekly pay of £1 1s to £1 4s.
In practice this was boosted by Additional Payments for skills acquired, typically ranging from 6d a day to 2s 6d a day; plus there was 3d a day for each good conduct badge earned and hard-lying pay (for living in basic conditions), so lifting the weekly pay by anything from 3s to 14s meaning a weekly wage range of £1 4s to £2.
s – shillings
d – old pence
