<description><![CDATA[<p>In addition to the general accommodation there were 2 caravan sites based on the airfield. One for officers and one for ratings. My father, lieutenant Herbert Goddard, was based there between 1955 and 1957 when I was about 7 years old. We lived on the site in a 22foot long Travelmaster caravan. When flying finished for the day I used to get on my bike and explore, even collecting spent solid nose 20mm cannon shells from the sand in the test firing Butts. I used to take them to school in Stockton Heath to swap for marbles! It was a great life for a kid, health and safety was virtually non-existant</p>]]></description>
