I’ve been researching my Fathers Naval History and find in his records the following

Having read through the comments of others I’m sure he was in Australia at these time.

He always said he had been there but I just got passed off as something he did.

I wished I’d asked more.

I have a letter that was written to my father,

R. McBrien (Elect Artificer), number C/MX 18712.

H.M.S Golden Hind (Staff),

c/o GPO,

London.

The letter was franked on 17-Sept-1945 in Brighton, Sussex.

I do know that father was part of the crew onboard the RMS Aquitania that would have departed the UK during October 1945 and arriving at Sydney on the date of the attached photograph.

My question is, does that HMS Golden Hind refer to the camp in Australia or was there a camp by the same name in London, UK?

As father was an Electrical Engineer in Civvy Street before WWII, he was involved with the operation of the Anti Mine Belt that was fitted to the RMS Aquitania prior to her voyage to Australia.

My grandad was at golden hind . A second lieutenant in the Royal Marines .

My father was there between 13 Sep and 25th Nov 45. Family legend has it that he was there after being torpedoed and spent several weeks in an open boat, I haven't been able to get to the bottom of that one but I do know he was befriended by a family called Salisbury.

My father Eric MORRIS, leading Steward P/LX 22687 (HMS GOLDEN HIND 2)from Manchester was killed in an air crash 19/7/1945 together with Leonard E R GOVETT acting commander RNVR and Colm NOLAN Ty Surgeon Lieutenant RNVR. If anyone one has further information or knew him? Pictures? I never met him as only born 4 months old. Any help appreciated

My Father Charles Benjamin Baker Royal Navy was on the HMS Pembroke and was at this camp 16th May 1945 till 21st June 1945 would love to see some photos

My dad was there (called it Warrick Farm) before going to New Guinea, wrote about it in his manuscript.

George Fredrick Broadhead spent time at HMS Golden Hind, sure he mentioned working in stores there. He also met my mother there. Thanks

My father, Lewis Hale, was a signalman on board HMS Indomitable. He was stationed at Golden Hind from Feb 1945 to Oct 1945. Anyone that knew him would call him Binnie..he was a very capable accordion player who came from Kentish Town, London. He was befriended by a local family and I think may have worked at a local bakery as well!

Laurie, my dad was there too, he only gave snipping of his forces life. I am learning more now, sadly he has passed. I never actually got on with him, but oh my, this is changing my whole perspective of him and all the other great WW2 people. Thank you to all.

MY English father (from HMS King George V) and Aussie mother married at the Naval Chapel at HMS Golden Hind in Jan 1945 but I'm not exactly sure where that was in Sydney. I presume it was at Warwick Farm.

Just watching the VE Day 70 celebrations and wondered where Dad was on VE Day. Looked out his service records and found he was in Australia on HMS Golden Hind. Hadn't really dawned on any of us until now that Dad had been to Australia but he did have a Pacific Medal and apparently served on landing craft in every theatre. Makes me extremely proud but sad that he never spoke much of his experiences.

Arrived exhausted collapsed in a tent. I was a boy seaman sailed from Chatham end of January 1946 aboard Cumberland and sailed from Sydney on Anson for Japan after a short stay at Golden Hind. Never forgotten specially "up-homers" in Sydney.
