9 years ago I posted informing that I was born in the Waxwing camp in hut 20. Since then a group of us have got together working towards a fuller appreciation of the Waxwing site and its place in our local history. Although most sites are well overgrown we have located a large number of huts from original maps of the Waxwing and corresponding names of families who lived there after the war including my father who was stationed at HMS Merlin. The camp was used as a temporary accommodation for families until suitable housing was available. This happened after it was no longer used by naval personnel. Attached photo showing part of the concrete base refers to hut 101 occupied by the Wells family. The group are now working on clearing a further 2 hut locations, hut 20 Back family and hut 47 Pritchard family. We would appreciate if someone out there has any further information to help us compile a history of the Waxwing camp.

I was born at the Waxwing Camp in Townhill but have no records or photographs of the site. I have traced my Fathers Family Tree back to the 1760's and wish to add further information. Both my parents passed away many years ago.
