my great grandad was a radar operator on ruler. have the daily order sheets for the japanese surrender day and for the day they entered tokyo bay plus many pictures. glad he gave it too me before he passed.

Don't know if its of any interest but my late Uncle Leonard Jackson was a radio operator aboard HMS Ruler.

My father served on HMS Ruler from late 1943 to end of 1945 when it sailed back to th uk from Australia. He was on board while anchored in Tokyo bay for the Japanese surrender. I don’t know much of anything else as he really didn’t talk about it, just greatful he survived.

My grandfather served on this ship as a body repairer to the aircraft. His name was Alfred Leonard Wheadon. Not with us no more since 2006 but still carry him in my heart. He may have gone by a different name other than Alfred as he didnt like Alfred, we just called him 'the old git lol'

My father served on HMS Ruler from transfer to Royal Navy until returned to the USA. He was s/L Leslie Bincham running the steam catapult on the flight deck. I have many memories of his tales and quite a few photographs.

My Grandfather, Ronald (Ronnie) Grimshaw served on the Ruler. Unfortunately no longer with us and didn't talk much about it.

My grandfather (plumbers mate) remembers that journey after picking up POW from Japan and then taking them to Sydney. Incidentally, that’s where some service men didn’t return to the ship, opting instead to stay in AUS. There is a book on HMS Ruler that I bought my 94 year old grandad, details all HMS Rulers war time service.

After defending HK and then spending 4yrs in Japanese POW camp. my father and his two brothers, were put on HMS Ruler, which was being being used to transport POW's from Japan to Sydney. His mother, younger brother and two sisters had previously been evacuated (in 1940) from Hong Kong (to Sydney) prior to the Japanese invasion. He described the voyage as being a wonderful experience. "We talked, ate, reminisced and played deck games with each other and the crew". "We had just started to re-discover life outside a prison camp". NB: My father is now 97yrs old an lives with me in Frenchs Forest, Sydney, AUSTRALIA.

I'm trying to help a close friend of mine whose father served on hms ruler. Arriving in Sydney he deserted along with others I believe and it was the last anyone ever heard of him. His name was Herbert scott, she has nothing on him at all other than and would welcome any info.

My grandfather, William John Davies(still with us) was a plumbers mate on this ship. The last two port holes towards the back was his workshop. I've been trying to locate me some pictures of crew and ship ,any ideas how I can get my hands on something as I'd like to do something nice for him.
