A history of 1844 Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Air Squadron

August 1952 - March 1957

 

Formation

No.1844 reformed at RNAS Bramcote on 15 February 1954, as an anti-submarine squadron in the Midland Air Division of the RN Volunteer Reserve. Initial equipment was 6 Firefly 5s; these were exchanged for six Firefly AS.6s in December 1955. The squadron received six Avenger AS.5s from March 1956.

R.N.V.R. Air Branch disbands

Due tor defence spending cuts the R.N.V.R. Air Branch was axed in 1957, the organisation and its squadrons ceased to exist on March 10th 1957.
